A Message from IAP2 USA's New President- Heather Imboden

Dear IAP2-USA members,

I joined the IAP2-USA board three years ago  because I saw an opportunity for public participation practitioners to better represent the diverse communities we serve. As your new board president, I’m thrilled to continue this work on behalf of our members, our field, and the community members whose lives we touch.

With this in mind, I will continue to focus on making good on our commitment to equity. Like you, I am committed to P2 because we believe that “those who are affected by a decision have a right to be involved in the decision-making process.” That means removing barriers to participation and building an inclusive practice. If you have ideas about how IAP2 USA can support you in meeting those goals, please let me know!

2022 will be another big year for IAP2-USA as we continue to rapidly grow our membership and our chapters. In the board's new strategic plan, we have prioritized the successful launch of new training materials that respond to the evolving context of public participation. As part of this work, we will be bringing on a new cohort of trainers to join our seasoned trainers in providing time-honored tools and fresh perspectives to the practice. If you have been wondering how to become an IAP2 trainer, now is your time – complete this interest form and stay tuned for more announcements later this spring.

I hope to be a responsive leader for our organization. If there are issues you’d like to discuss, topics you’d like to see IAP2-USA take on, or you just want to check in, please feel free to reach out to me. I want to hear from you to understand how IAP2 can better serve your needs.

I look forward to getting to know you and partnering with you to continue IAP2 USA’s work.

In collaboration,

Heather
