One Community’s Journey From Skepticism to Support

Punctuate this year’s conference with a Friday evening reception and “field trip” to one of this year’s Respect for Diversity and Inclusion Core Values Award applicants. The Dahlia Campus for Health and Wellbeing invites you to meet staff and community members who together created this state of the art community mental health and wellness facility, described at national conferences as “best in class,” and on the PBS Newshour as “an oasis for a neighborhood left behind.”

Hear how 18 months of deliberate, committed public participation enabled community members to shift from “NO!” to an enthusiastic and committed “YES!” regarding construction of a controversial community mental health facility in an economically distressed community of color. Visit with community members who helped birth this extraordinary initiative – and staff who continue to nurture the partnerships that have made Dahlia Campus such a powerful, grassroots success.

What practices – before, during and after opening – enabled this community to actively reclaim itself? How did community members’ vision and partnership help transform Dahlia Campus into what it is today? How do Dahlia’s neighbors continue to support, inform and co-create its future? Address these and other questions in this casual, behind-the-scenes reception, conversation, Q&A and site tour.

Our complimentary field Trip includes:

  • Reception (wine, hors d’oeuvres and meet the players)
  • Presentation by staff and community leaders
  • Q &mp A
  • Site tour
  • Transportation to and from the campus
